John Sanders and more Broadway alums have been enlisted for the revival of Caryl Churchill’s Cloud Nine. Directed by James Macdonald, the previously reported production will begin previews on September 16 and play a limited engagement through November 1. Opening night is set for October 5 at the Atlantic Theater Company’s Linda Gross Theater.
Along with Sanders (Peter and the Starcatcher) as Harry Bagley/Martin, the production will feature Brooke Bloom (You Got Older) as Edward/Betty, Sean Dugan (Next Fall) as Joshua/Gerry, Lucy Owen (The Village Bike) as Maude/Victoria, Chris Perfetti (Picnic) as Betty/Edward, Izzie Steele (What I Did Last Summer) as Ellen/Mrs. Saunders/Lin and Clarke Thorell (Annie) as Clive/Cathy/Soldier.
Set in colonial Africa and 1979 London, Cloud Nine is about power, politics, family, Queen Victoria and sex. The modern classic has not been seen in a major New York production since 1981, when it ran for over two years.
The production will feature scenic design by Dane Laffrey, costume design by Gabriel Berry, lighting design by Scott Zielinksi and sound design by Darron L West.
